March 8, 2021 - 2:47pm

Good Afternoon Children's Campus Families,

We wanted to provide an update in regard to our reopening this week. The majority of our staff completed their testing on Friday, March 5th and today, March 8th. Their results will be submitted to obtain return to work clearances from the UNM Occupational Health Office. We have an approved safety plan from ECECD and have provided our reopening plan and all information required for final approval to reopen. With this current closure taking place so close to our scheduled in-service days next week, March 18th and 19th, the management team has made the decision to modify our in-service day schedule. The Children's Campus will now remain closed Tuesday, March 9th and Wednesday March 10th to complete any necessary steps for reopening and for our spring in-service days. We will reopen for families beginning Thursday, March 11th. As a result of this change, we will remain open for families on our previously scheduled in-service days, Thursday, March 18th and Friday, March 19th. It is our hope that adjusting our in-service day schedule will minimize the impact of this recent closure on families. As always, we appreciate your continued support.

Thank you,

Kimberly DeLeon

March 3, 2021 - 10:50am

Dear Families,

We received notification today that an individual at the Children's Campus has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, we immediately closed the facility, paused Grab and Go meals, and are working in collaboration with the ECECD, UNM, and the DOH regarding the next steps.

We have already notified all families who may have been in direct contact with the individual regarding potential exposure. Testing has been scheduled for our staff, the safety plan has already been submitted, and the facility has been scheduled for disinfecting first thing tomorrow morning. As you may recall, our re-opening is dependent on receipt of staff testing results, clearance by ECECD, and official notification that the facility has been cleared. Specific information regarding a possible reopening date will be sent out as soon as it becomes available.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We will be in touch soon.

Good Afternoon!

The Children's Campus will reopen tomorrow, Friday, January 15, 2021. If we notified you that your child was in direct contact with someone who tested positive, they will need to remain quarantined for 14 days from the date of exposure based on the guidance we receive from ECECD. The majority of our staff have completed and received their test results, have been cleared to return to work by UNM Occupational Health, and we have revived clearance to reopen from NM Childcare Licensing.

As a reminder the Children’s Campus will be closed Monday, January 18, 2021 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Have a great rest of your day and we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

January 9, 2021 - 8:56am

I wanted to provide a quick update in regard to our reopening. The majority of our staff have scheduled their rapid test for 1/13 or 1/14 based on guidance to ensure we allowed 7 days from the date of potential exposure before testing. We anticipate that results will be available within 24 to 48 hours subsequent to testing. We will provide all of our results to UNM Occupational Health Office and obtain return to work clearances as results are received. We currently have an approved safety plan from ECECD and have provided our reopen plan and all information required for approval to reopen. At this point, I am anticipating a possible re-opening on Friday January 15th 2021 but will keep you posted as we have more information.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Dear Families,

We received notification this evening that an individual at the Children's Campus has tested positive for COVID-19. The facility was already closed for the evening when we received this information. We will subsequently close the center and pause Grab and Go meals while we work in collaboration with the ECECD, UNM, and the DOH regarding the next steps.

We have already notified all families who may have been in direct contact with the individual regarding potential exposure. Testing for all staff will be scheduled and the facility will be scheduled for disinfecting first thing tomorrow morning. December 8, 2020 - 4:12pm

Good Afternoon!

The Children's Campus will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, December 9, 2020, for those families that indicated they had an absolute and essential need for care. If we notified you that your child was in direct contact with someone who tested positive, they will need to remain quarantined for 14 days from the date of exposure or based on the guidance we receive from ECECD. We will reach out to families with children in quarantine as their potential return date gets closer with more specific information.

I also want to let you know that a second positive case was reported to us today.  This second case is related to the initial report and a result of direct contact that took place outside of the Children's Campus. Based on the information that we have at this time, there is no indication of community spread at the Children's Campus. Unfortunately, that does mean that other classrooms and children have been impacted. We have already reached out to those families with children that were potentially exposed to notify them. This is a good reminder to please keep your guard up and limit your contact with others outside your immediate bubble as much as possible.

I have spoken with ECECD and UNM regarding this second case. They have indicated that this will not impact our plans to reopen tomorrow based on the steps that have already been taken and the safety measures that we have in place. As always, should you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly at 505.363.2086 or danielah@unm.edu.

On a separate note, the credits for our November closure and limited access during the month of November were submitted to the Bursar's Office and should be reflected both in Smartcare and on your Bursar's account. Credits for the month of December will be submitted at a later time. Again, if you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Have an amazing rest of your day and we will see you tomorrow!

Daniela

Good evening,

I want to thank everyone for their patience and flexibility. I have received approval for the Children's Campus to reopen tomorrow, November 18, 2020, with the understanding that our Safety Plan is still pending approval and that modifications may be required. That being said, I am fully confident that the Safety Plan we have submitted to ECECD meets or exceeds the requirements outlined in the Health and Safety Protocols as well as the Rapid Response Protocols. A copy of the Safety Plan that was submitted to ECECD was sent via email to all enrolled families. Upon approval, I will send a copy of the final, approved Safety Plan for your records. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to reach out to me. We look forward to seeing those of you that will be attending tomorrow morning!

Good Afternoon,

I am still waiting on an update from ECECD regarding the approval of our Safety Plan. I'm being told that they have quite a few that they are working through right now. I have made a number of inquiries and am hoping to have additional information at some point today. Unfortunately, if we do not receive the approval today, we will be unable to reopen tomorrow as anticipated. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thank you for your patience,

Daniela

November 16, 2020 - 12:06 pm

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I wanted to provide some updates. I have been notified that our Safety Plan was being sent for review. Testing is going well, however, we are still waiting on some test results. In addition, we have been working to determine how we will implement the new guidance that's a result of the two-week reset announced by the Governor this past Friday.

That being said, we are asking families to complete a form for each child, self-identifying that you have an absolute and essential need for care OR you do not have an absolute and essential need for care at this time. If you are able to keep your children home, we strongly encourage you to do so. Either way, it is important that families complete this form and return it to us by the end of the day, today. I recognize that this is a quick turnaround, however, we will need this information before we are able to reopen to ensure compliance with the new mandate. The link has been emailed to all enrolled families via SmartCare.

The sooner we receive this information the better idea we will have about our potential reopening date, so please send it in as soon as possible!

Regarding billing, I will be posting credits to your Smartcare account before the next billing cycle, for the days that we were required to be closed as a result of the potential exposure. Billing for the next two weeks, beginning today, will be based on the form above. If we do not receive a form from you, you will be billed for those two weeks as you normally would. In addition, the two days next week that we are closed for Thanksgiving break have already been built into the rates, so no additional credits are available for those two days.

I have had a number of questions about Early PreK and PreK attendance. The PreK program is providing flexibility regarding attendance for both Early PreK and PreK as a result of the pandemic. We also plan to continue to support Early PreK and PreK families remotely if they opt to not attend.

I will continue to keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Stay well,

Daniela

November 15, 2020 - 11:02 am

Good Morning!

I wanted to provide a quick update regarding the reopening of the Children's Campus. At this point, Facilities Management has given us the all-clear that disinfecting has been completed. The safety plan has been submitted to ECECD and is pending approval. We are still waiting on testing to be completed. Overall, we are on track for a reopening early next week.

That being said, the Governor updated the public health order on Friday. These changes do impact the Children's Campus. The following information was issued by ECECD:

ECECD, in response, is limiting child care to those families who absolutely and essentially need care. This restriction is in effect, Monday, Nov. 16 through Monday, Nov. 30, 2020.

We are working to determine how the Children's Campus will implement this new guideline upon our reopening. We will pass along more information as we solidify our plans.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Daniela

November 13, 2020 - 10:16am

Good Morning!

I wanted to provide an update regarding our progress towards the reopening of the Children's Campus. As I mentioned yesterday, the three items that will need to be completed before we are able to reopen include disinfecting of the facility, testing of all of our staff, and approval of our safety plan.

Disinfecting: This has been scheduled with UNM Facilities Management and will take place within 72 hours of our closure. This window of time allows the facility to air out prior to having individuals on-site completing the disinfecting. I would anticipate that we will receive notification that this has been completed soon.

Testing: All Children's Campus staff are required to be tested prior to reopening. As you are aware, the first appointments through DOH were not available until Monday, November 16th with results taking 3-4 days. Based on this testing window, our reopening would be sometime late next week. I am happy to announce that through our collaboration with UNM Hospital and UNM Health Sciences, our staff has been able to schedule testing appointments as early as yesterday with others scheduled to test today. I am even more pleased to announce that the results of the testing that was completed yesterday are already beginning to roll in. We are now ahead of pace to have our testing completed. I am cautiously optimistic that this will positively impact the timeframe for the reopening of the Children's Campus.

There are a number of individuals behind the scenes that were instrumental in prioritizing testing for Children's Campus staff. I want to personally thank each of the following individuals:

Dr. Michael Richards, Interim Executive Vice President, UNM Health Sciences
Kate Becker, Chief Executive Officer, UNM Hospital
Michael Chicarelli, Chief Operating Officer, UNM Hospital
Sarah Frasch, Chief Human Resources Officer, UNM Hospital
Chamiza de Alas, Chief of Staff, UNM Health Sciences
Jessica Kelly, Deputy Chief of Staff, UNM Health Sciences

I also want to thank the staff at the 1600 University Clinic for graciously fitting us into their overbooked schedule! Without their efforts, it would not have been possible to have our testing completed this quickly. I especially want to thank Jessica Kelly who continues to be a strong advocate and friend of the Children's Campus. She has been instrumental in a number of initiatives impacting children and families during the pandemic and is someone I am honored to work with. Thank you again to everyone involved, we couldn't have done it without you!

Safety Plan: The Children's Campus is required by ECECD to submit a safety plan for approval, prior to reopening. This safety plan is already in place at the Children's Campus. I will be making a few slight modifications based on updated guidelines, however, we are on track to have this document submitted for approval sometime early this afternoon.

I also want to thank our staff for their flexibility and willingness to do whatever it takes to support the safety of our Children's Campus community. They are dedicated, selfless, and work harder for your children than I can express. And last but definitely not least, I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for the words of support and kindness, your understanding, and your grace during such a challenging time. We are stronger together and will continue to move forward always keeping in mind the health, safety, and well-being of every individual in our community. Thank you!

I will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. As always, please feel free to reach out to me at danielah@unm.edu or 505.363.2086.

Stay well,

Daniela

November 12, 2020 - 11:13am

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is doing well this morning. We are continuing to work through the necessary steps that will need to be completed prior to the reopening of the Children's Campus. We have organized the disinfecting of the facility in addition to testing for all of our staff. I am also working on updating our COVID Saftey Plan that will need to be submitted and approved by ECECD prior to getting the green light to reopen. I will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available. An email was sent to families that provides guidance to anyone that may have been a direct contact as well as a parental consent form to disclose information to DOH. This form is only needed if your child was in direct contact and can be emailed directly to me upon completion. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to contact me at danielah@unm.edu or 505.363.2086.

Stay well,

Daniela

November 11, 2020 - 6:05pm

Good Evening,
I wanted to let everyone know that we have personally notified all families that may have been impacted by a potential exposure. We are continuing to work with ECECD, DOH, and UNM on next steps, including disinfecting the facility and staff testing. All Children's Campus staff will be scheduling appointments to be tested. Unfortunately, the earliest available appointments begin on Monday, November 16th. In general, it has been taking approximately 3-4 days to receive test results. While I don't know how long we will remain closed at this point, I would recommend planning at least through the middle of next week. This will also impact our grab and go meal service for those of you that have been utilizing that program. We will keep you updated regarding our re-opening as soon as possible. Should you have questions, please feel free to reach out via email at danielah@unm.edu or by phone at 505.363.2086.
Stay well,Daniela

Happy Friday!

I hope this email finds you well! I wanted to provide a few updates regarding our closure. First, our Safety Plan was submitted and approved by the ECECD. Please click here for an  updated copy of the plan for your information. We have also received confirmation that the facility has officially been disinfected. Unfortunately, we still have more than half of our staff's test results outstanding. As a result, we will have to delay our reopening of the Children's Campus until Wednesday, July 22, 2020 when we anticipate being back to full strength. We will however, resume our FREE Summer Food Program beginning Monday, July 20, 2020 with Grab and Go meals available between 9:00 am -10:00 am and 11:45 am - 12:45 pm. Please feel free to stop by and take advantage of these delicious meals cooked by our very own kitchen staff.

I also wanted to provide some information regarding billing during our closure since I know that several families have reached out with questions. We will be prorating July's tuition based on the number of days that we have had to remain closed to families. These credits will be sent directly to the bursars office soon. I would ask that you give us some time to make these adjustments as we are currently without an accountant and have had to focus our attention on ensuring that everything is in place to safely reopen.

Additionally, we do anticipate extending the Jumpstart to Kindergarten program in order to make up for some of the days the children were not able to attend as a result of the closure. More information will be coming out soon about the new end date for the program. Finally, don't forget that we will be completing on-line registration for the Fall 2020 semester next week for all currently enrolled families. Be sure to keep an eye out for your registration link.

As always, thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing everyone back very soon! Have an amazing weekend!

July 14, 2020 - 12:53pm

Good Afternoon!

I hope this email finds you well.  I wanted to provide an update in regards to our closure on 7/13/2020. We are in the process of ensuring that we are adhering to all compliance and safety protocols outlined by the DOH and have continued to work closely with the ECECD. We will also be submitting a safety plan to the ECECD, as required, for review and approval prior to being permitted to reopen. We anticipate submitting this safety plan before the end of the day. In addition, out of an abundance of caution for both our Children's Campus staff and children, I have required that our staff be retested prior to the reopening of the facility. Many of us, myself included, retested this morning and anticipate having our results in approximately 3-4 days (Friday or Saturday). As our results are received, they will be forwarded on to Employee Health for final clearance to return to work. As such, the Children's Campus will remain closed through at least Friday, July 17, 2020, while we await our test results and are given the clearance to reopen. This will also provide time for Facilities Management to service our building. I will continue to communicate with you as we have additional information about our reopening date.

I also want to take this opportunity to reassure you that we have strict safety protocols in place, however these protocols are only one piece of the puzzle and are only able to address the circumstances that are within our control. It takes each of us doing our part to help to minimize risk in areas that are outside of that. Even with these safeguards in place, and staff and families doing everything they can to stay safe and keep those around them safe, we are all still vulnerable. We rely on each other to think about the safety of our staff and children when making decisions. We continue to emphasize the minimization of outings as much as possible; limiting your contact with others outside your immediate family unit; adhering to social distancing guidelines when out in public; washing your hands or using hand sanitizer often; wearing a mask when out in public; and keeping your child home if they are showing signs that they are not well. We must work together and be accountable to each other in order to sustain a safe and healthy environment at the Children's Campus.

Thank you for your continued support. We will provide further updates as we can and we hope to see you all soon!

Thank you all for your patience and understanding this morning. I wanted to provide a quick update regarding today's closure. We have now reached out to all individuals that may have come into direct contact with the individual that tested positive. If you have not received a phone call from us at this point, your child was not directly impacted and will not need to be tested or quarantine for 14 days. As a result of this positive test result, we will be closed for a minimum of 48 hours as we work through all of the steps involved with this process and receive all necessary approvals to reopen. If you have questions, please send us an email at weecare@unm.edu or you can reach out to me directly at danielah@unm.edu as we will be working remotely. The UNM Children's Campus has diligently been working over the course of the weekend to determine next steps to ensure the health and wellness of the children, families, staff, visitors and community that we serve. With the evolving information related to COVID-19, the UNM Children's Campus has decided to suspend all observation, practicum, student teaching and related academic connection experiences until further notice.

March 15, 2020 - 2:30pm

In an effort to support the UNM Community during this incredibly challenging time, the UNM Children's Campus will remain open providing scaled back services ONLY to families with documented school or work requirements during the University's extended closure. Staff have been asked to reach out directly to families in their classroom to provide the necessary information and form that will need to be completed in order for children to be authorized to stay in our care beginning tomorrow, March 16th. The form can be found here: Care During Extended Closure.

Summer Camp Registration for Children's Campus alumni families will take place as scheduled, however to minimize the number of individuals in our building, it will be held outside in front of the white gates.

We are strongly encouraging families to stay home if they are able to in order to minimize unnecessary contact and help everyone stay healthy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this constantly evolving situation. Please feel free to reach out to us at weecare@unm.edu with any questions regarding this information.
